چکیده

In his seminal paper on arbitrage and competitive equilibrium in unbounded exchange economies, Werner (Econometrica, 1987) proved the existence of a competitive equilibrium, under a price noarbitrage condition, without assuming either local or global nonsatiation. Werner's existence result contrasts sharply with classical A substantial part of the paper was written while Allouch was at CERMSEM, University of Paris 1, and at the Department of Finance at the University of Alabama. Walras and dividends equilibrium with possibly satiated consumers

The main contribution of the paper is to provide a weaker nonsatiation assumption than the one commonly used in the literature to ensure the existence of competitive equilibrium. Our assumption allows for satiation points inside the set of individually feasible consumptions, provided that the consumer has satiation points available to him outside this set. As a result, we show the concept of eq...

In a world were trading is costless, assets with identical cash flows must have identical prices. If arbitrageurs face unit time costs, or holding costs, the prices of these assets need not be equal, i.e the assets can be relatively mispriced. This paper constructs a dynamic model of the equilibrium determination of prices under costly arbitrage. Our analysis reveals that: (i) Mispricing and ar...

Office of Research Statistical Arbitrage and Tests of Market Efficiency

Roughly speaking, statistical arbitrage is a long horizon trading strategy that generates a riskless profit. The concept of statistical arbitrage is motivated by numerous empirical studies that construct trading strategies to profit from persistent anomalies. However, we demonstrate by example that positive expected trading profits are not sufficient to reject market efficiency. Instead, this p...

Equilibrium and arbitrage in incomplete asset markets with fixed prices

At arbitrary prices of commodities and assets, fix-price equilibria exist under weak assumptions: endowments need not satisfy an interiority condition, utility functions need only satisfy a very weak monotonicity requirement, and the asset return matrix allows for redundant assets. Prices of assets may permit arbitrage. At equilibrium, though restricted through endogenously determined trading c...
